Fractal Artwork was discovered by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975. The images are generated by a mathematical equation that feeds back into itself and is plotted by a computer. These images differ from other CG images in that because of the method used to construct these images they can be infinitely magnified, continually generating further detail. The information learned from fractal imaging has advanced image enhancement. By beginning with a blurred image and determining what input would be required to generate the current image, enhancement estimations can be determined via a recursive algorithm. Fractals can be found in nature to display self-similar structure over an extended, but finite, scale range. Some examples are DNA, clouds, snow flakes, crystals, lightning, ferns, cauliflower or broccoli, systems of blood vessels, Tree leaves, ferns. The image in the video below is an example of one of the first fractal shapes discovered and is refered to as the Mandelbrot shape.
